German Chancellor Friedrich Merz made a significant contribution to the continuation of Ukraine's military support by the United States and influenced the change in the rhetoric of President Donald Trump on Russia. This was stated by German Foreign Minister Johann Vadeful in an interview with the German newspaper Bild.
The Minister stressed that the initiative of Merz has become an important factor in forming the final decision of Washington. According to Vadeful, Merz clearly expressed his support from Ukraine and actively communicated with Trump.
" Friedrich Merz played an important role in this process. He personally discussed his position with the US President during meetings in the White House and at the G7 summit ," the minister said.
In addition, the Chancellor has repeatedly called Trump, convincing him that "the United States is now extremely needed" in the context of Europe's security and Ukraine support.
" We are pleased that Germany's voice is being heard again in Washington. This is the result of a direct and constructive chancellor dialogue with the US President ," Vadeful added.
This statement sounded against the backdrop of discussions in the United States on the future support of Ukraine. Earlier, Trump has repeatedly expressed critically about the volume of assistance in Kiev, but recently his position has become more restrained.
