Metinvest Group, owned by businessman Rinat Akhmetov, has announced the suspension of operations at a coal mining site in the village of Pishchane, near Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region. The decision was made due to threats to worker safety and the difficult situation in the region.
It is noted that the suspension of work occurred due to the approach of the front line and increased shelling.
This site provided about half of Metinvest's total coal production in Ukraine. At the same time, the Group's other key facilities continue to operate.
The site houses the Pokrovske mine management vertical shaft (No. 3) and an administrative complex. It is noted that the Group evacuated key personnel and their families.
The company has not yet announced the closure of other mines near Pokrovskoye.
