In Kyiv, a large-scale scheme for the organization of fictitious training for foreign migrants was exposed, which was overseen by a former adviser to the head of one of the capital's medical universities. The official used bribes to help foreigners obtain student permits and visas, which allowed them to legally stay on the territory of Ukraine without actually studying.
This scheme was made possible thanks to forged documents certifying the enrollment of migrants at the university. Foreigners who used the services of an official could stay in Ukraine for up to 5 years without attending any classes.
The suspect was arrested right at his workplace, when he was receiving another bribe - 33,000 hryvnias from a "student". During the searches, law enforcement officers seized funds and other evidence of illegal activity.
For the organization of this scheme, the former university adviser faces up to 10 years in prison, as the investigation incriminates him under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
This case became another signal for law enforcement officers about serious abuses in the educational sphere, which undermine trust in Ukrainian higher education institutions.
