The Ukrainian Navy has confirmed that it struck the ship “Commune” in Sevastopol, which is located in the occupied territory of Crimea. This is an important step by Ukraine in controlling the situation in the region, as well as a signal to Russia that its occupation policy is unacceptable.
The Ukrainian Navy has hit the ship “Commune”, as a result of which the ship will no longer be able to perform combat missions, said Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesman for the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“Today, in Crimea, the Ukrainian Navy received another ship from the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the Commune. The nature of the damage is being verified. But the ship is clearly unable to perform its tasks now,” Pletenchuk wrote.
He stressed that such attacks will be repeated until the Russians run out of ships or withdraw from Crimea.
What is known about the attack on the “Commune”?
An explosion was heard in temporarily occupied Sevastopol on the morning of April 21. Local telegram channels reported that fire engines were “rushing” along the northern side of the city.
The representative of the occupation authorities of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhaev, stated that an anti-ship missile attack on one of the ships on the North side was repelled, and a small fire broke out from the missile fragments, which was quickly extinguished.
However, the Crimean Wind Telegram channel, citing a local resident, reported that the rescue ship “Kommuna” could have been hit in Sukharnaya Bay. This ship is the oldest ship in the Russian Federation. It was put into operation back in 1915 and until that time it was in service with the Russian Federation and performed combat missions.
As a reminder, on the afternoon of April 21, Russian occupiers fired ballistic missiles at the Odessa region, injuring at least four people. The blast wave and debris from the ballistic missiles damaged private homes. Among the injured were three men and one woman.
