Law enforcement officers reported suspicions of a servicewoman from the Poltava region who, during martial law, systematically went on vacation abroad instead of serving.
According to the State Bureau of Investigation, a senior sergeant of one of the military units left her place of duty eight times during 2022–2024 and visited resorts in Montenegro and Poland.
Despite her absence from duty, the woman continued to receive financial support. The unit's management did not react to her absences, which led to an unjustified payment of almost 190,000 hryvnias from the state budget.
Investigators charge the servicewoman with evasion of military service by deception under martial law (Part 4 of Article 409 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), as well as fraud that caused significant damage (Part 3 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The maximum penalty under these articles is up to 10 years in prison.
During the investigation, the suspect reimbursed the illegally obtained funds. At the same time, the actions of the military unit command, which continued to accrue payments to her despite her absence from duty, are being investigated.
