Petro Kuzyk, commander of the Svoboda battalion, spoke during an interview on the "News Factory" program about the critical problems facing the Ukrainian infantry at the front. One of the most serious threats is the unpunished attacks of enemy artillery on infantry positions.
Main problems on the front line
Kuzyk stressed that enemy artillery remains one of the key challenges for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. “Enemy artillery is ‘ramming’ infantry positions with impunity. Something needs to be done about this,” the commander said. He also noted that the Ukrainian military was not fully prepared for such a large number of enemy FPV drones and drone ammunition drop systems.
To successfully combat enemy drones, electronic warfare (EW) systems are needed. According to Kuzyk, there are very few of these means at the front, and most of the equipment is supplied by volunteers. Although Ukrainian forces were able to partially defend their positions, the enemy continues to inflict serious blows with its UAVs, including Russian Orlans and Zala.
Kuzyk noted that although the Ukrainian Armed Forces have already started shooting down enemy drones, these are still isolated cases. "We need to 'blind' their artillery, and then, in principle, we can work," he added.
According to Kuzyk, more electronic warfare and counter-battery systems are needed to save the lives of soldiers on the front lines. Their presence can significantly increase the chances of survival of Ukrainian infantry in a combat zone.
