Olena Shulyak, the head of the Servant of the People party, said that millions of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ukraine could receive housing in state and municipal facilities that are currently unused. She made this announcement during a speech at an event dedicated to solving the problem of displaced people.
And with the consent of the owners, also in private real estate.
To this end, the Verkhovna Rada adopted bill No. 11281, which provides for the creation of a database of such objects, which will be mapped with photographs.
"A nationwide inventory of all real estate belonging to both state and municipal ownership, and - with the consent of the owners - to private ownership, will be conducted. In order to understand which residential buildings - houses, hotels, dormitories - may have additional accommodation for our internally displaced persons," says Shulyak.
Displaced people will be able to choose where they would like to live by selecting the appropriate facility on the interactive map.
If necessary, facilities in poor condition are planned to be repaired at the expense of international donors and sister cities.
According to official data, there are almost 5 million IDPs in Ukraine. In fact, there may be even more.
