The Ministry of Social Policy plans to introduce a new social payment

The living wage in Ukraine, which for a long time served as a reference point for calculating social benefits, fines and other indicators, no longer corresponds to modern realities. The Ministry of Labor and Social Policy decided to change this situation by proposing the introduction of a new special social payment. This step, as noted by the Minister of Labor and Social Policy Oksana Zholnovich on the air of the telethon, aims to improve the functioning of the entire social system and affect the economic state of the country.

Living wage: why change is needed?

The living wage in Ukraine, which traditionally served as the basis for determining the level of social benefits, has long been out of line with the modern needs of the population. The Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Oksana Zholnovich, emphasized that the size of the current living wage is too small to ensure the basic needs of citizens. This leads to the fact that social benefits do not fulfill their main function - to support people in difficult life situations.

New social payment: what will change?

Instead of the subsistence minimum, it is planned to introduce a special social payment, the size of which will be determined individually. Unlike a universal living wage, this payment will take into account family composition and other factors affecting household needs.

As Oksana Zholnovich explained, the new basic payment will be provided in cases where a person has lost his ability to work or needs financial support due to the lack of the necessary support. This approach will make it possible to more accurately meet the needs of citizens, providing them with the necessary level of support in various life situations.

Impact on the social system and economy

The proposed changes can significantly improve the country's social system. Refusing to link social benefits to the living wage, which has long since failed to reflect the real needs of the population, will help make the social assistance system more fair and efficient.

In addition, the refusal to use the living wage as a base indicator for calculating fines and official salaries will also have a positive impact. As Oksana Zholnovich pointed out, this will allow us to avoid unfair decisions based on outdated indicators and to introduce a more flexible and adaptive approach to the regulation of social issues.
