The number of states that are ready to join the potential international mission in Ukraine exceeds six. This was stated in an interview with Radio Liberty by Estonian Defense Minister Hanno, Makur, after meeting the Coalition of those who want to the NATO headquarters on April 10.
According to Pavkur, countries are not waiting - they are already preparing. But before the real deployment of international presence in Ukraine, a number of key issues must be addressed: a mission's mandate, the rules of using force and a request from Ukraine.
“I disagree with the statements that only six countries are ready. There are more of them. However, we must first reconcile the parameters: what is the mission, what its powers, what are the rules of hostilities and whether the ceasefire will be set, ”the minister stressed.
The Coalition was initiated by France and the United Kingdom in February this year. It includes more than 30 countries that seek to provide long -term security assistance to Ukraine against the background of prolonged Russian aggression. The first eye meeting at the level of defense ministers took place in Brussels on April 10.
The meeting discussed various scenarios of possible international presence in Ukraine, including variants of instructor missions, technical assistance, logistics support and restoration of the Armed Forces infrastructure.
So far, there is no peacekeeping mission with a mandate or a full military deployment. However, in the future, it can be a topic of negotiation if Ukraine officially addresses the corresponding request.
