Lviv International Airport is studying the possibilities of reviving civil aviation during the war

The management of Lviv International Airport announced an active study of the possibilities of opening civil aviation flights even in the difficult conditions of wartime. Despite numerous security-related challenges, the initiative is aimed at improving transport connections and supporting the region's economy.

This was announced on the Facebook page of Lviv International Airport.

According to the representatives of the airport, the main condition is to ensure the safety of aircraft, passengers and infrastructure.

"We are holding meetings with international partners, experts in the aviation industry, airlines and government organizations to explore opportunities and find solutions for resuming air traffic under martial law," the airport's press service said in a statement.

Despite the fact that flights are currently not carried out, about 30% of the team from the pre-war staff works at the airport. Employees maintain qualifications, carry out technical maintenance of the infrastructure, and also maintain the airfield in operational condition.

An operational document for the evacuation of passengers has been developed, and evacuation drills are regularly conducted. According to airport representatives, such measures will allow a small number of flights to be quickly resumed after the opening.

"In case of complete closure of the airport, it may take several years to restore its operation. We are doing everything to prevent this scenario," the press service emphasized.

Airport officials stress that the resumption of flights depends on many factors, including security, international support and the situation on the battlefield. Meanwhile, "Lviv" continues to maintain readiness for a possible resumption of operations in order to preserve the most valuable thing - the trust of passengers and reputation.

It will be recalled that the senior partner of Marsh McLennan Crispin Ellison said at the Kyiv International Economic Forum that flights can be resumed by the end of January 2025. According to him, likely candidates for this are Lviv or Boryspil airports.
