The Ukrainian Deputy Chairman of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, Yehor Chernev, noted that the mobilization of convicts in Ukraine can become one of the tools for replenishing the ranks of the Armed Forces. However, he emphasized that such mobilization should be voluntary and should also take into account the willingness of commanders and convicts to cooperate.
"This is one of the tools that can be used. But we have to understand that it should be a voluntary mobilization , and there should also be commanders who are ready to cooperate and understand who to work with," said Chernev.
He also added that he personally has commanders who are ready to accept convicts in their units, as well as convicts who express their readiness to defend the country.
"I have requests from commanders who say, give me such a resource, I know what to do with it. And there are appeals from convicts who also say that they are ready to defend their homeland , give us such an opportunity," Chernev explained.
However, the head of the committee on national security, Oleksandr Zavitnevich, refused to support the proposal to mobilize the convicts. He noted that in the past similar actions led to "hazing" in the Armed Forces of the USSR in the 1950s.
The question of the possible mobilization of convicts in Ukraine becomes relevant in the context of the need to replenish the ranks of the Armed Forces.
