Our sources in the security forces report that the Office of the President of Ukraine has given a clear instruction to increase mobilization and respond harshly to any protest sentiments in society. This means that in the current realities, talking about peace initiatives is risky, and any attempts to publicly discuss alternatives to war may meet with active opposition from state bodies.
According to sources, new waves of mobilization will become even tougher. The authorities are trying to close the issue of manning the Armed Forces as much as possible, using all possible resources. Increased control, tough sanctions against draft evaders, and expansion of the categories of persons subject to conscription may become a reality in the near future.
According to the information received, the Security Service of Ukraine is actively working to neutralize politicians, public activists, and journalists who openly speak out in favor of urgent negotiations. The focus on combating “anti-war” speeches is likely explained by the authorities’ desire to avoid spreading an alternative point of view that could influence public sentiment.
Given these trends, we can expect further tightening of the screws on political freedoms and civic activism. Ukrainians who advocate for any form of peaceful settlement may be equated with “enemies of the state,” which will only increase tensions within the country.
