Mobilization to the Armed Forces of Ukraine: Who becomes subject to military service before the age of 25?

Mobilization into the Armed Forces is underway in Ukraine, which concerns men under the age of 25. This measure is aimed at strengthening the country's defense capabilities in the face of an aggravating geopolitical situation and preserving territorial integrity.

In Ukraine, the draft age has been reduced to 25. However, there are cases when younger individuals may be drafted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine during mobilization from May 18. The publication “Ukrainska Pravda” reported more details about this.

Mobilization from May 18: who will be drafted at the age of 25?

According to the Law of Ukraine “On Military Duty and Military Service”, there are cases when persons under the age of 25 are subject to registration as military conscripts during mobilization from May 18. These are:

  • men released from military service into the reserve;
  • those who have terminated alternative (non-military) service;
  • dismissed law enforcement officers, commanding and rank-and-file personnel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, State Bureau of Investigation, Operational and Rescue Service of Civil Protection, State Penitentiary Service, and other law enforcement and security agencies;
  • persons who were removed from the register of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the Security Service of Ukraine;
  • discharged from military reserve service;
  • exempted from conscription for military service, unless the reason is also a reason for granting a deferment from mobilization in Ukraine. These are persons who, after graduating from higher education institutions, were awarded military (special) ranks of officers (commanders).

We will remind you that after President Volodymyr Zelensky signs the law on lowering the age limit for mobilization in Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to recruit approximately 100,000 young fighters.

Earlier, People's Deputy, member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Fedir Venislavsky said that he is positive about lowering the draft age. According to him, Ukraine does not plan to lower the age limit to 20 years.
