The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has called on the Verkhovna Rada to adopt a bill on the implementation of a total video surveillance system and identification of citizens using digital facial images. This was announced by Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko during a meeting with deputies, where the bill, registered back in February of this year, was discussed.
"Using the example of the work of the Situation Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the practical capabilities of the video monitoring system for maintaining law and order, preventing and responding to administrative and criminal offenses were demonstrated," the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement.
According to the minister, the new system will allow not only to monitor people, but also to monitor vehicles, identifying them by make, model, color, license plate number, and other characteristics.
The proposed system involves the use of modern technologies to improve the security and efficiency of law enforcement agencies. If the bill is adopted, it will significantly expand the possibilities for combating crime and ensuring public order.
It should be noted that the implementation of such systems raises both support and concern among the public, especially in the context of issues of privacy and personal data protection.
