Farewell to the leader of the Green Grey band Andriy “Diesel” Yatsenko took place on October 23 at the Cinema House in Kyiv. Friends, colleagues, famous artists and fans came to say goodbye to the musician. Among those present were, in particular, Jamala, Artem Pyvovarov, Viktor Pavlik, Taras Topolya and other famous performers.
The ceremony was also attended by Green Grey beatmaker Denis Binkovsky (Original Dizzy). He told reporters that Diesel's death was a shock to everyone not only emotionally, but also medically: no one knew that Yatsenko had a chronic illness. According to Binkovsky, Diesel ignored treatment for years and treated it with contempt. "His favorite medicine was activated charcoal," he said.
The colleague also added that Andriy never complained about his well-being, always remained active, even when he was tired and overworked. Despite the loss of the frontman, the Green Grey team is not going to disappear: a tribute concert in his honor is being prepared in Kyiv. What will happen with the announced all-Ukrainian tour has not yet been decided. "We will finish everything he started," said Binkovsky.
It also became known about the further fate of the musician's body. After the farewell in Kyiv, Andriy Yatsenko was cremated, and the urn with his ashes was buried at the Baikovo cemetery.
It has been officially confirmed that Andriy “Diesel” Yatsenko died on October 20 at the age of 55. The cause of death was heart failure caused by ischemic heart disease. According to relatives, the musician's heart stopped at around nine in the morning. This information was published on the pages of the band and Yatsenko himself, and was also confirmed by representatives of Green Grey.
Green Grey is one of the iconic Ukrainian bands, formed in 1993 in Kyiv. Diesel (Andriy Yatsenko) was the co-founder and the constant face of the band for decades. The band became famous for its mix of rock, funk, electronics and the hit "Under the Rain" / "Under the Rain", and Yatsenko himself became for many a symbol of the Ukrainian alternative scene of the 90s and 2000s.
It is especially important: in recent years, Diesel publicly supported the Ukrainian military, joined the rallies and himself served in the territorial defense unit, helping with air defense and volunteering. For fans, he was not just an artist, but a person who lived his position to the end.
The team says that now their mission is to not let his name fade away. The plans include a tribute in Kyiv and the continuation of what Yatsenko managed to launch before his death: a tour, new releases, work with young artists. "Nothing should be forgotten," said Original Dizzy.
