A court in Mannheim, located in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, has begun hearings into the high-profile murder case of a Ukrainian mother and her daughter. The German couple accused of committing the crime have pleaded guilty, DW reports.
The verdict may be announced in February.
The couple killed 51-year-old Ukrainian refugee Maryna Stetsenko and her 27-year-old daughter Margarita for the kidnapping of five-week-old Margarita. They expressed remorse for what happened.

According to the investigation, they did this out of a desire to have a child. The woman is 45 years old, the man is 43. To do this, the woman joined a support group for Ukrainian refugees on Telegram, contacted the 27-year-old victim when she was looking for an interpreter for the upcoming birth.
Then, in the restaurant, the couple gave the Ukrainian women a sedative and pretended to be taking them to the hospital. First, at the lake, the man killed the grandmother by hitting her on the head with an unknown object, and then the mother in the same way, and burned the corpse. The couple went home with the child. They were soon detained.
The girl is already 11 months old, she lives in Ukraine with her aunt.
