The president of the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) Tymofiy Mylovanov took the initiative to buy the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy from the Ministry of Education, stating that the current state management of the educational institution is unprofitable. He announced this on his Facebook page.
Mylovanov, who is a graduate of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, assures that he does not agree with the widespread stereotype that "Mohyla is no longer the same". According to him, in order to increase its "greatness and influence", it is necessary to change the approach to its management.
"For the Ministry of Education, this educational institution is unprofitable, while KSE will be able to manage it more efficiently as a private educational foundation," Mylovanov explained.
The president of KSE assured that after the change of management, the conditions for students will not worsen, but on the contrary, they will improve. In order to avoid the influence of business, oligarchs or foreign funds, Mylovanov proposed to raise funds for the redemption of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy "in a popular way", referring to the experience of raising funds for the purchase of a satellite for the Armed Forces.
Mylovanov estimated the cost of the academy at 10-50 million dollars. He announced that fundraising for the buyout is planned to begin on January 13.
"If you think I'm joking, like Trump with Greenland, then no! I seriously want to buy Mohylyanka," he emphasized in his post.
Currently, the Ministry of Education has not officially commented on this proposal.
