The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the temporary chargé d'affaires of Ukraine Olga Tymush and expressed a strong protest to her in connection with the alleged violation of the Belarusian border by Ukrainian drones. In response to these events, Belarus stated that it may raise the issue of the expediency of the further presence of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Minsk.
Belta reports , the diplomatic note was handed over to the Ukrainian diplomat against the background of the statements of the self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Oleksandr Lukashenko. Lukashenko accused Ukraine of violating the airspace of Belarus, claiming that the Belarusian air defense system shot down several Ukrainian drones, which were recorded on the evening of August 9.
In its statement, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry emphasized that if the Ukrainian diplomatic mission is unable to influence the prevention of such incidents, Belarus will consider the need for the further functioning of the Ukrainian embassy in Minsk.
Prerequisites
These events began on August 10, when Oleksandr Lukashenko publicly accused Ukraine of violating Belarusian airspace, saying that Belarusian air defense had shot down several Ukrainian drones. Lukashenko also reported on increasing the combat readiness of the air force and air defense of the country.
In response to this incident, Lukashenko ordered to strengthen the grouping of Belarusian troops in tactical directions near the Ukrainian border, in particular, in Gomel and Mozyr. The Polonaise and Iskander missile complexes will be sent there, which increases tensions in the region.
