In the village of Verkhnyachka, the Uman district of Cherkasy region, there was a terrible accident: a 49-year-old Volkswagen Golf driver knocked down a 22-year-old woman who crossed the road with a one-year-old son in a children's trolley. The mother was killed on the spot, the baby, fortunately, was not injured.
This was reported by police of Cherkasy region on February 13. The tragedy happened the day before, around 5:00 pm.
According to preliminary information, the driver did not cope with the driving, which led to the hit. It was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine. The prosecutor's office is currently resolving the issue of suspicion and a measure of restraint.
Investigators opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Art. 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - a violation of traffic rules that caused the death of the victim. If the blame is proved, the woman is threatened by up to eight years in prison.
According to the patrol police, in 2024 there were 25 781 road accidents in the control of the territory of Ukraine with dead or injured. These accidents were killed by 3 202 people, more than 32 thousand were injured.
This tragedy reminds of the importance of traffic rules and the need for care at the wheel again.
