The situation in Donbas has been the hottest front line for the Armed Forces of Ukraine for several months now. The German publication Die Welt reports on the critical situation in three main directions, where Ukrainian forces are forced to retreat under the pressure of Russian troops.
The correspondent of Die Welt in Moscow, Christoph Vanne, notes in his report that the situation is extremely difficult for the Ukrainian military at all three key areas of the front — near Pokrovsk, near Toretsk and near Krasnohorovka. In particular, near Krasnohorovka, Ukrainian forces were actually knocked out of their positions, and near Toretsk, Russian units approached the city limits.
Felicia Pochhammer, host of Die Welt , addresses Christoph Vanne with a question about the current development of the situation at the front: "Christoph, let's take a look at the current military events once again. How is the situation at the front developing now? What do you hear about that?”
Christoph Vanne explains that Donbas remains a constant hot spot. In particular, he mentions the small agglomeration of Toretsk (which in Russian reports is called Dzerzhynsk). About 30,000 people used to live there. Russian troops have been pushing into the Ukrainian defense line for several weeks now, and intense fighting is taking place around the city. Vann also mentions the settlement of Novgorodske (New York for Ukrainians), where Russian troops have already advanced to the center and approached the outskirts of Toretsk.
As a result, the situation in the agglomeration around Donetsk is extremely difficult for Ukrainian forces. It is also noted that the situation near Pokrovsk and Krasnohorovka is no less tense, in particular, near Krasnohorovka Ukrainian forces probably control only a small part of the city.
Thus, the criticality of the situation in Donbas for Ukrainians is obvious. As Vanne notes, it is necessary to frankly recognize the seriousness of this situation, since the struggle continues and the pressure on Ukrainian positions continues to grow.
