The rector of Kamianets-Podilskyi National University named after Ivan Ogienko Serhiy Kopylov became a participant of a road accident, which resulted in a 70-year pedestrian. The incident occurred in the suburbs of Kamianets-Podilsky, after which the driver left the accident.
According to the Khmelnytsky region police, a 61-year-old man was at the wheel of the Mercedes car. The driver hit the resident of the district center and did not stay at the scene. It was only through another driver who noticed the injured on the road that the victim was called by doctors and police.
Later, law enforcement officers identified the driver who committed an accident and found his car with characteristic injuries in the yard. The preliminary check did not find in the body of a suspected trace of alcohol.
Sergey Kopylov himself wrote a Facebook post, where he outlined his version of events. According to him, the man suddenly ran out of the bushes to the road in the dark. The driver claims that he stopped and suggested help, but in response received a husky and refusal.
“On February 22, late in the evening became a road accident in the suburbs of Kamianets, when a man ran out of the bushes in the darkness from the bushes. He stopped and offered help - in response he received obscene swearing and refusal. Alcohol was not consumed, voluntarily undergoing examination. I cooperate with the investigation and provide the necessary explanations, ”Kopylov wrote.
The case is investigated by two articles
Police opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Art. 286 of the Criminal Code (violation of traffic safety rules, which caused grave consequences) and Part 3 of Art. 135 of the Criminal Code (leaving a person in danger).
Under Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Kopilov, suspicion has already been declared. Regarding the qualification under Article 286 of the Criminal Code, the decisions will be made after receiving the results of the examinations.
The sanction of articles provides from 3 to 8 years in prison. Law enforcement officers also filed a request for the rector.
