In the Odesa region, law enforcement officers detained a man who set fire to post offices and administrative buildings for a monetary reward. According to the Office of the General Prosecutor, the suspect received orders via messenger, and recorded his actions on video for the report.
According to the investigation, the suspect acted with a clear conspiracy. He received orders for arson through an anonymous channel in the messenger, carefully coordinated objects and security measures to make his identification difficult. The customers promised him a reward, as well as guarantees of escape abroad in case of threat of detention.
The man prepared materials for arson — he poured fuel on the walls and windows of selected objects, set them on fire and filmed the process. He received money for completed "tasks" in an electronic wallet.
In the period from October to December 2024, the criminal set fire to post offices and administrative buildings of local self-government bodies in Odesa. One of the objects was the Pension Fund management office in the Ovidiopol district. It was during another arson attempt that the man was arrested at the scene of the crime.
The suspect was charged with willful destruction of property by arson. He is currently in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
