Strong magnetic storms are coming to Ukraine: how to protect health

In the coming days, Ukrainians will again feel the influence of strong magnetic storms. On April 23, geomagnetic activity is expected to red-K-index will reach 6 and 5, respectively. This is already classified as a serious magnetic storm that can affect not only people's well -being, but also communication.

On Thursday, April 24, the index will decrease to 4 - this is an average level, but can still affect people sensitive to people.

Magnetic storms are caused by explosions in the sun, which throw out the flows of charged particles in the direction of the Earth. When they reach the magnetosphere of our planet, fluctuations occur - and this is what weather dependent people feel.

The K-Index is a conditional scale from 0 to 9, which shows the force of the storm. All that exceeds 5 is already red and signal for caution. During such storms, headache, pressure jumps, insomnia, stress, apathy, fatigue are possible.

How to prepare

There are no serious medicines for magnetic storms, but there are simple tips:

  • Reduce caffeine and alcohol, limit fat and fried;

  • Drink more water and soothing teas (mint, chamomile);

  • Break, do not overload yourself physically;

  • Avoid quarrels and conflicts - stress exacerbates symptoms;

  • Do not forget about medicines if you have chronic diseases;

  • A contrast shower in the morning and a relaxing bath in the evening will help the body adapt.

In the days of high K-indexes, mobile, satellite navigation and GPRS are possible, and in some regions of the world, polar glows are even observed.

That predict for the coming days:

  • April 22-K-Index 6 (strong storm, red level);

  • April 23-K-Index 5 (strong storm, red level);

  • April 24-K-Index 4 (medium level, yellow signal).

The prognosis is updated every three hours, so it is recommended to monitor prompt notices on the official NOAA or Ukrhydromet Center.
