In Transcarpathia, two border guards fled abroad

The Rakhiv District Court of Zakarpattia Oblast considered a case against a border guard who was accused of neglecting military service, which led to the escape of two of his colleagues to a neighboring country.

As stated in the case file, on September 27, 2024, a border patrol consisting of two servicemen from the Sumy region took over duty at the section of the state border of Ukraine.

Dmytro D., who was on duty, was supposed to maintain contact with the specified servicemen. Every 30 minutes Dmytro D. had to conduct communication sessions with the border guards who were on the border section.

However, according to the case file, Dmytro D. did not conduct communication sessions, but made appropriate formal records of communication sessions in the workbook of the border guard.

Suddenly, on September 27, the border guard did not return to the location of the unit - most likely, around 00:50, both border guards fled to the territory of a neighboring country.

According to the command, Dmytro D. violated the requirements of the "Instructions on the service of the border units of the State Border Service", the Charter of the Internal Service of the Armed Forces and the order on the border detachment "On the organization of operational duty service in 2024".

Dmytro D. did not admit his guilt. In his defense, he explained that on September 26-27, when he was on duty, he had a heavy workload, which is why he could not get in touch with the border guard in time. In any case, he could not physically prevent his colleagues from escaping.

Dmytro D. added that at the time when, in the opinion of the command, he should have made a communication session with the border outfit, he should have had time for rest in general, but at the same time, at 00:08 on September 27, he still made a communication session with along with

Also Dmytro D. drew attention to the fact that, as it turned out already during the official investigation of the incident, both border guards were assigned to the border service department and had known each other for a long time, while they had already tried to cross the state border illegally twice before.

After examining the case materials, the court established that Dmytro D. nevertheless, he really allowed a violation of departmental instructions and orders, and therefore his guilt in negligent attitude to military service is proven.

On December 3, the Rakhiv district court of Zakarpattia region brought Dmytro D. to liability in the form of a fine in the amount of 17 thousand UAH
