The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) have reported suspicions of one of Ukraine's MPs. The case concerns illegal enrichment and entering unreliable data into an electronic declaration.
According to the investigation, in 2021–2023, the deputy received assets worth over UAH 20 million, which significantly exceeds her official income. Despite the official non-disclosure of her name, media and journalists point to Iryna Kormyshkina (formerly Allahverdieva), a member of the Servant of the People faction.
Illicit enrichment scheme
As investigators established, the deputy did not declare a residential building and two land plots worth over UAH 17 million, which she used in 2023. These objects were not listed in her electronic declaration. The property was purchased for unsubstantiated assets, the sources of which significantly exceed her official income.
She is charged with intentionally providing false information in the declaration (Part 2, Article 366-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). If proven guilty, the deputy faces a fine or imprisonment.
This is not the first anti-corruption scandal involving Kormyshkina. In October 2024, she was suspected under Article 368-5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - illicit enrichment. The investigation established that in 2021–2022 she acquired assets worth more than UAH 20 million, while her income during this period was only UAH 2.7 million.
The purchases included a luxury home near Odessa, where she currently lives. This article carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison with a ban on holding certain positions for up to three years.
Iryna Kormyshkina became famous in June 2020 after a sexist scandal. The then-head of the Servant of the People faction, David Arakhamia, and his deputy, Oleksandr Kornienko, called her a “ship pine” during a conversation. The scandal caused a public outcry, and Kornienko apologized publicly.
In addition, investigative journalists have repeatedly drawn attention to the deputy's lifestyle. For example, in 2022, she received gifts worth over UAH 19 million, including a Swiss Defy Midnight watch for UAH 310,000. She also acquired a Mercedes-Benz S500L, which, according to the deputy, cost her UAH 1 million, although experts estimated its market value at UAH 4.4 million.
The NABU investigation could set an important precedent in the fight against illicit enrichment among Ukrainian politicians. However, the question remains: will the MP be held accountable, given the high-profile scandals that often end without any real punishment?
