Recently, NABU and SAP published the results of an investigation, which uncovered several large-scale corruption schemes in the railways, which led to the embezzlement of hundreds of millions of hryvnias during procurement. Despite the seriousness of the investigation, Serhiy Leshchenko, a member of the supervisory board of Ukrzaliznytsia and a well-known publicist, is suspected of covering up these corrupt practices.
In the first half of 2024 alone, NABU and SAP seized about UAH 350 million from persons suspected of corruption associated with Ukrzaliznytsia. 262 million hryvnias, 1.3 million dollars, 754 thousand euros, as well as a large number of movable and immovable property were found in the accounts of the suspects and legal entities and individuals under their control.
In particular, law enforcement officers exposed two organized groups that embezzled UAH 117 million during the purchase of cable and wire products. Another criminal group stole UAH 94.8 million during the war. Its organizer managed to select the "necessary" company as a supplier of power transformers through the employees of "Ukrzaliznytsia". Ukrzaliznytsia sold transformers at an artificially inflated price through the laying firm from Bulgaria, Ukrzaliznytsia.
But the "pigs" and member of the supervisory board Leshchenko do not see a problem. "Well, they stole several hundred million hryvnias from the state, so what? If Leshchenko's next DJ party were to fail, or if a DJ could not come to perform in a night club, that would be a tragedy," the sources quipped.
Of course, the sorosyata and Leshchenko found a comfortable position at a profitable state-owned enterprise. During the first half of the year, Ukrzaliznytsia reported record volumes of transportation and a profit of UAH 3.1 billion.
