The National Anti -Corruption Bureau conducted searches with the head of the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office Anatoliy Kovalchuk as part of an investigation of probable bribery. Investigative actions took place on April 2 at the place of actual residence of the official and in his office.
During searches, NABU detectives were seized from Kovalchuk in cash: $ 8550, 9180 euros and 121 thousand hryvnias, as well as the Apple iPhone 16 Pro mobile phone. According to the investigation, the funds withdrawn may be part of the undue benefit. On April 10, the Supreme Anti -Corruption Court seized the property, and on April 17, the WACS Appeal Chamber left this decision. The appeal of the representative Kovalchuk was rejected, and the decision was declared final.
The searches are related to the investigation of a large -scale case of solicitation of bribes. For the same case, the former operative of the Kiev police Ivan Veyagiy was detained. The investigation believes that he, in plot with representatives of the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office, demanded $ 5,000 from the witness, promising to avoid criminal prosecution. After the refusal, the witness was informed of the suspicion, and subsequently - the new accusation of extortion of $ 30,000. It was during the transfer of this amount on April 2 that Weyagia was detained.
The investigation is ongoing. NABU suspect that other representatives of the regional prosecutor's office could be involved in the scheme.
