The National Anti-corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office filed a case against People's Deputy of Ukraine Serhiy Labazyuk from the "For the Future" faction, who is accused of providing an undue benefit to former Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov and the head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure, Mustafa Nayem. This was reported by the NABU press service.
According to the investigation, in August 2023, Labaziuk, who is the owner of a large construction and agricultural business, appealed to a senior official of the Ministry of Reconstruction with a request to grant his company contracts for the reconstruction of infrastructure facilities worth 1 billion hryvnias. For this, he promised a "reward" in the amount of 3-5% of the value of each contract.
To agree on the next steps, the people's deputy involved the director of his company.
Later, the defendants transferred an illegal benefit in the amount of 150,000 US dollars to a senior official of the State Recovery Agency. The transfer of the bribe took place in the parking lot of one of the capital's supermarkets, and the money was hidden in a Chinese box.
Labaziuk denied that he had tried to bribe officials, claiming that he was provoked into bribery. The case qualifies under Part 4 of Art. 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, for which he faces from five to ten years of imprisonment.
On November 28, the High Anti-Corruption Court ordered a preventive measure against Labazyuk, but bail in the amount of 40 million 260 thousand hryvnias was paid for him, and he was released from custody on the same day.
NABU noted that this is already the second People's Deputy to be accused of providing an illegal benefit in the field of reconstruction.
In April 2024, an indictment with a case against another deputy was sent to the court.
