The National Bank of Ukraine was unable to provide an explanation for the origin of the bundles of dollars in branded bank packaging that law enforcement officers seized during searches as part of the so-called "Minditchgate" investigation.
This became known from the regulator's response to a request from journalists from "Ukrainian Truth".
The National Bank reminded that from February 24, 2022, banks are not allowed to issue foreign currency cash to customers in branded packaging of $100 banknotes with the issuer's marking.
Also, with the outbreak of full-scale war, strict restrictions were imposed on cash withdrawals from accounts. In particular:
– the daily limit is no more than 100 thousand UAH in equivalent, that is, approximately 2,380 dollars at the current exchange rate;
– the restriction applies to individuals and legal entities without exception;
– banks are strictly prohibited from circumventing these rules or issuing currency beyond the established limits.
Thus, the appearance of bundles of dollars in factory packaging among those involved in the investigation raises additional questions, because such banknotes could not have legally reached customers during martial law.
This discrepancy has become another episode that increases attention to the corruption connections that appear in "Minditchgate" and calls into question the transparency of cash transactions in certain structures.
