Research by popular PIN code has shown that many users choose too simple combinations, which makes them vulnerable to hacking. Such passwords are easily guessed, jeopardizing the safety of smartphones, bank applications and other digital services.
Such a study published ABC News.
The most popular PIN in the world is the combination of "1234", which is used by almost every tenth person whose data participated in the study.
The top 10 most common and at the same time the most dangerous PINs are included:
- 1234 - Absolute leader in frequency of use.
- 0000 is the second most popular, one of the first combinations trying to pick up hackers.
- 1111 is another simple code that is easy to break.
- 1342-a variation of the most popular PIN, which was still too common.
- 1212 - a simple and popular combination.
- 4444 - Repetition of one digit also does not ensure safety.
- 4321 - the opposite of the most popular password.
- 2580 - looks complicated, but it is only a vertical line on the keyboard of the smartphone, which makes it easily guessed.
Experts emphasize that these combinations should not be used anywhere, because they are the first to be checked when trying to hack.
The authors of the study noted that such PIN codes are hardly found when registering on sites and social networks, since modern services require more complex passwords. However, they are widely used to unlock smartphones, tablets and mobile banking.
Researchers also drew attention to a similar tendency among text passwords. For example, "123456" still remains one of the most common passwords on the Internet, along with combinations such as "Qwerty" or "Password".
How to protect your data?
Do not use simple PIN codes to avoid hacking. The best option is unique 6-digit combinations that do not contain consecutive or recurring numbers.
It is also recommended:
- Use biometric protection (fingerprint or face ID).
- Activate two -factor authentication for mobile banking and important services.
- Regularly change passwords and PIN codes to minimize the risks of hacking.
