Non-partisan People's Deputy Artem Dmytruk, known for his support of the Moscow Patriarchate, is currently under investigation for illegally traveling abroad, Ukrainska Pravda reports, citing law enforcement sources.
According to information provided by activist Serhiy Sternenko, Dmytruk left the territory of Ukraine on Saturday, August 24. On the same day, he left Moldova through Chisinau Airport, taking a 5:40 PM flight to Rome, Italy.
Law enforcement officers are currently investigating all the circumstances of the illegal crossing of the state border and the details of the MP's escape.
Artem Dmytruk entered parliament from the Servant of the People party, but later became non-partisan. He is also known for his active support of the Moscow Patriarchate and his positions in the church, including as a subdeacon of the UOC-MP — the most senior church official.
In February 2024, Dmytruk provided bail for the monk of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, Hierodeacon of the UOC-MP Pavlo Muzychuk, who was detained by the Security Service of Ukraine on suspicion of justifying Russia's aggression against Ukraine. In addition, Dmytruk is suspected of collaborating with a priest of the UOC-MP, who is a defendant in a treason case.
