Vasyl Virastyuk, a member of parliament from the Servant of the People party, has been placed on the Unified Register of Debtors due to alimony. His ex-wife Inna has filed a lawsuit demanding that the deputy pay 80,000 hryvnias per month — 40,000 hryvnias for each of their two sons.
The woman justified the amount of alimony by the need to provide appropriate conditions for the children's growth. According to her, the boys inherited significant physical parameters from their father, so they need to update their clothes and shoes more often.
Virastyuk himself explained in court that he was unable to pay such a sum. He referred to the legislative ban on people's deputies engaging in entrepreneurial activity, and also reported that since 2017 he has had a second group of disability, which limits his physical ability to work.
Taking into account the arguments presented, the court partially satisfied the ex-wife's claim, ordering Virastyuk to pay alimony in the amount of one third of his income for each child - a total of two thirds of the deputy's total official income.
Despite the court's decision, Virastyuk was included in the Unified Register of Debtors due to accumulated debts. According to the public database, as of the time of publication, the case had not yet been fully settled.
