Three people's deputies of Ukraine elected from the Odessa region, despite their declared incomes in the millions, received more than 230 thousand hryvnias in compensation from the state budget for renting housing in the capital. This was reported by the press service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
These are Mykola Skoryk, Oleksandr Tkachenko, and Oleh Kolyev. According to the submitted declarations for 2024, Skoryk declared the largest income — 3.2 million hryvnias. His colleagues Tkachenko and Kolyev reported incomes of 1.7 million hryvnias each.
Despite this, during the first four months of 2025, these three deputies received compensation from the budget for renting housing in Kyiv for a total amount of 232.7 thousand hryvnias.
The law allows deputies to claim such compensation if they do not have their own housing in Kyiv and are registered more than 30 km from the capital. However, a logical question arises in society: is it ethical to receive funds from the budget for housing, while having millions in profits?
In addition to Skoryk, Tkachenko and Kolev, people's deputies Serhiy Koleboshyn and Oleksiy Leonov also received compensation for the rent. Thus, for January-March 2025, five deputies from the Odessa region received a total of over 230 thousand hryvnias in compensation. Moreover, these same politicians received the same compensation throughout the past year.
The data comes amid ongoing discussions about cutting government spending during the war. Civil society activists are calling for a review of compensation mechanisms for those who have enough money to rent their own homes.
