The North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) has begun evaluating various possible scenarios for ending the war in Ukraine through diplomatic means. According to Bloomberg, the discussion of these options takes place in the context of long-term support for Ukraine and taking into account new geopolitical realities.
As noted, Ukraine's allies have shifted the emphasis from "searching for ways to victory" to attempts to put President Zelensky in a better position to counter Russian offensives or to negotiate a possible ceasefire.
"Donald Trump's impending return to the White House has prompted NATO allies to focus on strengthening political support amid a protracted war," writes Bloomberg.
At the same time, the governments of the Allies began to discuss various scenarios for ending the war. The discussion includes security guarantees that would protect Ukraine without provoking Putin.
One possible option for a ceasefire is the creation of a demilitarized zone, likely to be guarded and patrolled by European troops, a senior NATO official said, according to one of Bloomberg's sources.
Another Western diplomat noted that these discussions are taking place against the background of the awareness of the instability of the situation in Ukraine, and negotiations on a settlement should begin "in the near future."
The agency adds that these discussions took place as NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte tried to focus on increasing arms supplies to Ukraine, putting aside any ceasefire for the time being.
We will remind you that in the currently known settlement projects in Ukraine, which were proposed to Trump by his advisers, there is no clause about sending European troops to Ukraine.
