Artem Sytnyk, deputy head of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NACP), commented on the growth of corruption risks in the Armed Forces as a result of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.
According to him, war always leads to an increase in corruption risks, even in those areas where the level of corruption in peacetime was low.
Sytnyk attributed the increase in corruption in the Armed Forces to a significant increase in the budget, which became the largest since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. However, he noted that now the main priority is to prevent corruption in the army, so as not to create grounds for Russian propaganda, which claims that everything in Ukraine is corrupt and stolen.
He also noted that the work of law enforcement agencies can be considered quite effective, as they detect corruption, which indicates some progress in reducing corruption risks.
As for the scandals related to purchases in the Armed Forces, the investigators uncovered a case of irregularities in the procurement of clothing and underwear, as well as a corruption scheme for the purchase of ammunition. The relevant persons are under investigation or have already been arrested.
