The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NACP) has exposed the head of the territorial service center of the RSC of the GSC of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine as having signs of illegal enrichment. The official investigation revealed that the official and his family purchased property worth about 20 million hryvnias, which does not correspond to their legal income.
The real estate that the official purchased in March 2022, already during a full-scale war, attracted special attention. We are talking about five apartments in the resort cities of Batumi and Bakuriani (Sakartvelo). The area of the apartments varies from 37 to 87 square meters. m, and their cost ranges from 30 to 82 thousand US dollars. The total amount of expenses for these real estate objects exceeds 7.19 million hryvnias.
According to the results of the inspection by the NAKC, it was established that the official from 2021 to 2023 used a scheme with the purchase of vehicles at discounted prices and subsequent sale at inflated prices. His close relatives were also involved in this scheme. Thus, the official received significant financial income, which was not officially declared.
The materials of the investigation were transferred to the Office of the Prosecutor General. NAZK initiated the entry of information into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations under Article 368-5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal enrichment). In addition, in cooperation with the Agency for Search and Management of Assets (ARMA), the verification of the sources of financing of the said acquisitions is ongoing.
Against the background of war and economic challenges, such cases especially outrage society. Corrupt actions of officials undermine trust in state institutions and require a tough response from law enforcement agencies.
