On January 4, a terrible event took place in the Vanguard community of Odesa region involving two teenagers aged 14 and 16. The younger boy, left at home without adult supervision, decided to show his friend a carbine belonging to his father.
According to preliminary information, during a demonstration of weapons, a 14-year-old boy accidentally fired, hitting his 16-year-old friend in the head. The victim with a serious gunshot wound was quickly taken to the Odesa Regional Children's Clinical Hospital. His condition is currently unknown.
Law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident. Currently, the issue of the legal qualification of this event and its inclusion in the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations is being resolved.
This case once again raises important questions about keeping guns at home. Neglecting safety rules can have tragic consequences, especially when children have access to weapons.
Law enforcement officers call on citizens to comply with the legislation on the storage of weapons and to teach children the rules of safe handling of them.
