With the New Year holidays approaching, forecasters of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center shared the weather forecast for the last days of 2024. As forecaster Natalia Ptukha reported, no significant precipitation is expected in Ukraine until the end of December, but wet snow is possible in some regions on December 31.
The weather forecaster said that until December 31, there will be no significant precipitation in Ukraine, with fog expected in some places. At the same time, snow is likely in many regions on December 31 and on New Year's Eve - albeit wet.
Thus, precipitation is expected in the northern and eastern regions, as well as in Volyn, Rivne, Poltava and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
In Kyiv and the Kyiv region, there may also be light wet snow in places, Ptukha predicts.
At the same time, she noted that this snow will not last long and will melt quickly.
Temperature on New Year's Day
The weather forecaster noted that the air temperature at night will average from 3 degrees below zero to 3 degrees above zero. At the same time, during the day on December 31, the temperature will be from 0 to 6 degrees above zero (in the south of Ukraine - up to +9 degrees). In the north, it will be a little cooler - from 3 degrees below zero to 3 degrees above zero, both during the day and at night.
At the same time, intensive spring warming is expected on January 1. “In Ukraine, +3…+8 degrees Celsius in most regions during the day… In the southern part and in the Carpathian region, up to 11 degrees above zero,” said Ptukha.
A "classic" winter, according to her, will only be seen in the Carpathians.
"At night, 2-7 degrees below zero. During the day, about zero degrees. And the snow cover there, in principle, will persist," the forecaster concluded.
What will the weather be like at the beginning of the year?
Previously, Natalia Ptukha predicted that the weather in the first week of the new year and in January in general would not differ much from the current one.
According to her forecast, January will generally be relatively warm, and snow, if any, will be sporadic. Experts predict the average monthly temperature in January to be within 0…-3 degrees – which is 1.5-2 degrees higher than the climatic norm for this month.
