In Ternopil, law enforcement officers exposed the head of the military medical commission (MMC) at the territorial recruitment center, who demanded a bribe from a serviceman for a fake medical diagnosis that would allow him to receive a disability group and a deferment from service.
According to the National Police of Ternopil Region, a cardiologist who heads a freelance permanent VLK demanded from a serviceman from 500 to 1,000 dollars for entering a serious cardiological diagnosis into his medical records. The patient was undergoing inpatient treatment, and the discharge was supposed to give him the opportunity to apply for disability.
The arrest took place after the transfer of the first part of the bribe – $500. Law enforcement officers informed the detainee of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 368-4 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (obtaining an unlawful benefit by a person providing public services, combined with extortion). The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of 4 to 8 years, confiscation of property and a ban on holding certain positions for a term of up to three years.
The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement officers checking the possible involvement of other individuals in the corruption scheme and the scale of the offense.
