Germany announced the preparation of a new military aid package for Ukraine in the amount of 1.1 billion euros. According to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, this package will include more than a hundred thousand projectiles and missiles for the IRIS-T system for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Olaf Scholz announced this at a briefing on February 16. According to him, the aid package will include:
- 36 armored and wheeled howitzers from industrial stocks;
- 120 thousand shells;
- 2 Skynex air defense systems;
- rockets for the IRIS-T system.
The chancellor also reminded that for the current year, Germany has allocated 1.7 billion euros to help Ukraine, and has also pledged to provide 6 billion euros in the following years. Scholz emphasized that Germany is the second largest provider of support to the Ukrainian people and the second country to sign security guarantees after Great Britain. Under these guarantees, signed by the Security Cooperation Agreement, Germany commits to Ukraine's security support, including arms and specific contracts, as well as a clear stance on sanctions against the aggressor and consultation mechanisms in the event of a possible future Russian attack on Ukraine.
