Germany continues to actively provide assistance to Ukraine throughout the war, and since the beginning of the conflict, the amount of funds provided has amounted to almost 28 billion euros. This is reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, presenting the results of 2023 and plans for 2024.
It said the financial support included a wide range of activities, such as a large-scale winter aid program, refugee support, humanitarian aid, war crimes investigations and demining. In addition, Germany provides Ukraine with supplies of equipment and weapons from its own warehouses and industry.
In the context of a winter situation where Russia systematically attacks civilian infrastructure, the German government is expanding support with a winter package, planning to double military aid to 8 billion euros in 2024.
In addition to financial aid, Germany is actively working to support Ukraine in various areas, including the supply of equipment, war crimes investigations and participation in conferences, such as the Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine, scheduled for June 2024.
It is noted that Ukraine is actively resisting Russian aggression, liberating territories and pushing back the Russian fleet. The German Foreign Ministry emphasizes impressive progress in internal reforms and points to Ukraine's intention to start negotiations on joining the EU.
Diplomats also point to the changing security environment in Europe due to Russian aggression and Germany's plans to begin stationing its permanent brigade in Lithuania next year. In addition, preparations for the 75th NATO summit and support for the investigations of the International Criminal Court are important elements of German foreign policy.
In conclusion, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs defines humanitarian aid as an integral part of Germany's foreign policy, which remains an important component in the future.
