Norway stops automatically granting asylum to Ukrainians

Norway, one of the countries that actively supported Ukrainians, is forced to change its asylum policy. The Minister of Justice of Norway, Emily Enger Mel, announced the decision to end the automatic granting of asylum to all Ukrainian refugees.

In 2.5 years, Norway accepted about 85,000 Ukrainians, which, according to Oslo, is more than all neighboring countries.

"We cannot accept a disproportionately large share of displaced persons compared to similar countries, such as the Nordic countries," said Justice Minister Emily Enger Mehl.

From now on, Norwegian migration services will consider applications for asylum on an individual basis and only from 6 western regions (Lviv, Volyn, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil and Rivne).
