After the end of hostilities, no more than half of the refugees may return to Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by the People's Deputy and Head of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy Nina Yuzhanina on the air of Noviny.Live.
According to her, during the years of full-scale war, Ukrainians who found refuge in Western countries managed to adapt to new living conditions — find jobs, provide themselves with housing, and some have already finally settled in a new place.
"It seems to me that for them — I won't say for 70%, but for 50% — the decision has been made. Because the security situation is constantly in limbo. It says that we will not have a good neighbor," Yuzhanina commented.
The politician believes that the main deterrents to the return of refugees remain the unpredictability of the security situation and the possibility of new aggression from Russia. She is also concerned about the uncertainty in the field of international support, in particular from the United States and the European Union.
"What scares those people the most is that they see how they are protected by that country and the responsibility of those states. This chaos that is now in state institutions completely scares people outside of Ukraine," Yuzhanina emphasized.
In addition, she mentioned Russia's recent missile attacks on residential neighborhoods in Ukrainian cities, which are causing great concern not only among citizens inside the country, but also among those currently outside its borders.
"Maybe energy infrastructure is not being shelled somewhere, but look at how people are suffering," the deputy added.
In general, the situation with the return of Ukrainian citizens from abroad remains difficult and depends not only on the end of the war, but also on the conditions that the country will offer its citizens after victory.
