The new agreement between Ukraine and the US on mineral production has caused resonance in political circles. The document, which has received the editorial office of Euro Pravda , stipulates that Ukraine should compensate for the United States to all financial assistance provided since the beginning of a full -scale invasion of Russia in 2022.
According to the Kiel Institute, the total amount of US assistance to Ukraine (including military, budget and humanitarian packages) is estimated at $ 123 billion. According to the provisions of the Agreement, Kyiv will be forced to reimburse these funds through a special fund, whose income will form:
- 50% of all new licenses and rent payments for the development of subsoil of Ukraine;
- 50% of income from infrastructure (details of this item remain undisturbed).
In this case, payments will be made in US dollars, and funds will be made without commissions and delays at the request of the US side.
The document provides for the strict obligations of Ukraine for timely repayment of "debt". In case of delayed payments, the annual debt increase by 4%will be charged. This means that every time Ukraine is postponing payments, the amount of debt continues to rise.
The proposed treaty has already provoked acute criticism among Ukrainian politicians. They view it as the actual transfer of Ukraine's strategic resources under the control of the US without any additional security guarantees.
Bloomberg has stated that such an agreement can "open a way to monopolize Ukrainian resources by Americans, complicating access to European partners."
The Times called the agreement "another humiliation for Ukraine", emphasizing that its conditions are not equal and do not take into account the real economic capabilities of Kiev.
