At a meeting with Zelenskyi, Zaluzhnyi said that the Armed Forces should not expect rapid progress on the battlefield, given a number of problems, writes WP. The newspaper provides new details of the meeting at which the president suggested that the head of state write a resignation letter.
Zelensky told him that a change in the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is needed for "renewal" and that society is increasingly tired of war, and Western aid has slowed down. In response, Zaluzhny laid out the problems that his successor will inherit.
"Any new commander will still be fighting larger and better-armed forces in a war that has reached a grueling, painful stalemate. The new commander will still need a significant influx of additional soldiers to compensate for losses and meet Russia's plan to send 400,000 more troops into battle, and Ukrainian forces will still need the most: weapons, ammunition, vehicles and other equipment."
And, although the decree on the removal of Zaluzhnyi is expected, there is still a chance that the president may change his mind.
