New important details have emerged in the case of the murder of prominent Ukrainian politician and activist Iryna Farion. The suspect in the crime was detained on July 25, and the next day he was declared a suspect. Law enforcement officers are actively working to establish his connections with neo-Nazi groups in the Russian Federation.
During a briefing on July 26, the First Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Serhiy Andrushchenko, stated that the version of the involvement of the Russian special services is being considered. Law enforcement officers are also checking the involvement of the detainee in the neo-Nazi movement in the Russian Federation. A video recently appeared in which Russian “national socialists” from the NS/WP movement claimed responsibility for the murder of Farion.
“A set of measures is being taken regarding the involvement of the specified person. We are studying his connections in Ukraine and abroad. One of the versions is the involvement of the special services of the aggressor country in the organization of the crime,” Andrushchenko said
According to him, other crimes in Ukraine to which the detainee could have been involved are also being considered.
What is currently known about the murder of Irina Farion:
- The sleeve is a sports one, currently undergoing examination. The bullet is 9x18. These bullets were imported into Ukraine in 2017-2018, they are not combat bullets. There are about a million of them in the country.
- The weapon has not been found yet.
- Among the suspects were 80 people who looked like the alleged killer.
- The police interviewed 900 witnesses.
- The suspect arrived from Dnipro to Lviv on July 9.
- In Lviv, a guy rented three different homes through Booking.com.
- The boy's route was tracked by 170 surveillance cameras.
- The clothes the guy wore to spy on Farion were received by Novaya Poshta. He ordered them to Dnipro through online stores.
- Among the versions is the involvement of Russia in the crime.
- The surveillance camera did not capture the moment of the murder, but it did capture the suspect's approach to the murder scene and his preparation. And then his escape.
- The shot was 1.5-2 meters from Irina Farion.
- A day and a half after the murder, the guy returns by train from Lviv to Dnipro.
- Correspondence was found on the guy's phone, where he hinted at the murder of Farion, instructions, and "secret KGB documents.".
- The guy was looking for information about pro-Russian deputies and their places of residence after the murder of Farion. He could have been preparing for the next murder.
- The murder was committed with a converted gun.
- The guy wrote that for the safety of his father and mother, he was keeping everything a secret.
- They had been preparing for the boy's arrest for 24 hours.
- Farion could have become the boy's first victim because she was the most vulnerable and did not have sufficient protection.


In addition, the detainee is 18 years old and from Dnipro. On July 26, he was charged with premeditated murder. According to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, there is enough evidence to claim that it was the detainee who shot the linguist.
Journalists from “Scheme” (Radio Liberty) found out that this guy studied at Dnipro Gymnasium No. 62, played football at the City Children's and Youth Sports School and played for the “MDYUSH U-19” team. He also participated in the tournament in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “Autumn 2022”.
The media also contacted the suspect's father. In a comment, the man said that he was in the military and had not seen his son for a long time, but he learned about his detention from his wife. According to him, the boy did not say anything that would indicate hostility towards Farion. The mother's phone is turned off.
A suicide note was found on the boy's phone in case something went "not according to plan." In it, he apologizes to his parents. In his note, he writes that he hid it from his family "for their safety" and because he didn't trust them.
