According to information from our source in the Office of the President (OP), the appointment of Oleksiy Chernyshov as the head of the future Ministry of National Unity is not just a personnel decision, but a strategic move by Andriy Yermak in the hardware game against Mykhailo Fedorov.
The Ministry of National Unity, the creation of which is being actively discussed, should become a key body for the consolidation of different layers of society, regions and organizations during the war and after its end. Oleksiy Chernyshov, who previously held the post of chairman of Naftogaz, is a candidate that Yermak is completely satisfied with. His experience and loyalty make Chernyshov an important ally of the head of the OP.
Political game against Fedorov
Chernyshov's appointment, according to the source, aims to weaken the position of Mykhailo Fedorov, who has been gaining political weight lately. As Deputy Prime Minister, Fedorov is responsible for large-scale digital initiatives, and his role in the recovery of Ukraine is constantly growing. Yermak seems to be aiming to create an alternative political figure capable of seizing the initiative and becoming a contender for the post of Prime Minister in the future.
Chernyshov as "reserve prime minister"
Chernyshov's appointment has another implication. Yermak sees him as a potential successor to current Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. The new position gives Chernyshov the necessary political capital and tools to strengthen his influence. At the same time, the creation of the Ministry of National Unity allows forming a positive image of a reformer and statesman.
- Strengthening of Yermak's role : He continues to consolidate power through control over key personnel.
- Open conflict with Fedorov : The political confrontation between the two groups could have serious consequences for the stability of the government.
- Change of prime minister? : If Chernyshov proves himself in his new position, he can become a real candidate to replace Shmyhal.
