The major general himself lives in an apartment with an area of almost 100 m² in an elite residential complex on Ivan Franko Street. The owner of this property is his son Denys. The apartment was purchased in 2022, and its cost without repairs is about 110 thousand dollars .

However, Kovalchuk's family ties raise the most questions. As it became known, his daughter from his first marriage, Olena, lives in the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea.
These facts cause conflicting opinions about the new head of the Odessa Military Academy. At a time when military personnel are risking their lives at the front every day, General Kovalchuk's lifestyle and connections need attention from society and competent authorities.
It will be recalled that Andriy Naumov, the former head of the Main Directorate of Internal Security of the SBU, who left Ukraine a few hours before the start of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, in 2022 purchased three apartments in the elite residential complex Konak Seaside Premium, located near Alanya (Turkey).
