The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine presented draft law No. 12076, which amends the legislation on military duty and registration of citizens subject to service. In particular, the document contains important innovations related to women, and also notes future changes in the structure of the military service in Ukraine.
According to the new regulations, women who are fit for military service due to their health and age, and who wish to undergo basic military training, will be registered as military recruits before undergoing it. After completing basic training, women will be registered as conscripts.
These changes are related to the introduction of a new type of service - basic military training , which will become mandatory for all men who are fit for health starting in 2025. For women, it will not be a mandatory, but optional service. The bill also provides that women who are sent to basic military training will undergo a medical examination before being sent to practical training.
The main points of the bill:
- Medical examination changes : Before entering basic military training, women will undergo a medical examination.
- Abolition of conscription : From 2025, conscription for men will be abolished, instead mandatory basic training will be introduced.
- Features of passing basic training : From September 1, 2025, men and women who plan to work in the civil service or in local self-government bodies will have to undergo basic training or military service.
- Requirements for candidates : According to the new requirements, men under 60 who have not completed basic training or military service will not be able to enter the service of local governments, except for those who are declared unfit for health.
