Ukrainians are now allowed to enter the shelter with their pets

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine canceled the rule that prohibited the introduction of animals into protective structures of civil protection. According to a statement from UAnimals, the animal protection organization, this means that dogs and cats are now allowed to be brought into the shelter.

In December of last year, after the scandal in Kyiv, when two children and their dog were not allowed into the shelter during the explosions, UAnimals lawyers appealed to the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs with a proposal to update the regulations governing this situation.

According to the official announcement of the Ukrainian Herald, on January 10, 2024, the Ministry of Internal Affairs canceled the ban on the introduction of animals into shelters. According to the new order, those bringing animals must be housed in separate rooms or isolated areas, monitor their animals at all times and follow sanitary standards to ensure the safety of other people and property. UAnimals emphasizes that the restriction of access with an animal to the shelter is now excluded.

The owner of the pet or the person accompanying it shall ensure:

  • constant supervision of pets;
  • the necessary conditions corresponding to the biological, species and individual characteristics of the pet;
  • safety of surrounding people and animals, as well as property from damage by a pet;
  • the safety of the accompanied pet;
  • compliance with the requirements of sanitary and hygienic and veterinary norms and rules;
  • the presence of a leash for domestic animals that may pose a danger to human life or health, as well as a muzzle on dogs of breeds that are included in the List of dangerous dog breeds, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine resolution of November 10, 2021 N 1164.
